Established in 1946, the Grands Moulins de Dakar (GMD) covers 65% of the flour needs of the Senegalese market. With facilities that were renewed in 2006 and equipped with the latest technology, they produce 300,000 tons of flour and 100 000 tons of animal feed annually.

The wheat that supplies the plant comes from Europe or Canada. Quality control of this wheat is performed throughout its journey: by laboratories in France, on arrival in Dakar and throughout the production process.

The GMD mainly produces bread flour (90%) but also flour for pastry, biscuits, and for general household use. The GMD has also developed a comprehensive range of food for livestock (sheep, horses, cattle, poultry and aquaculture).

A major player in the Senegalese economy, the GMD, produces an annual turnover of 120 million Euros. They employ 350 full-time employees, who receive full social benefits.
